William Macnaghten Erskine, 5. Baron Erskine (* 7. Januar 1841 in Simla, Indien; † 8. Dezember 1913 in Spratton Hall, Northamptonshire), war ein britischer Adeliger und Politiker.

Leben

Sein Vater war John Cadwallader Erskine, 4. Baron Erskine; seine Mutter war Margaret, Tochter des John Martyn. Mit dem Tod seines Vaters im Jahr 1882 erbte er dessen Adelstitel und den damit verbundenen Sitz im House of Lords.

William Erskine wurde in Indien geboren, als sein Vater dort Dienst leistete. Nach der Rückkehr seiner Eltern nach England beendete er seine Ausbildung mit einem Jurastudium in Eton, danach übernahm er die Aufgaben eines Friedensrichters. Seinen Militärdienst leistete er bei den 9. Royal Lancers, er beendete seine Laufbahn als Captain.

Im Jahr 1873 wurde er von der Anwaltskammer Lincoln’s Inn zugelassen und damit berechtigt, als Barrister aufzutreten. Diese Tätigkeit sowie das Amt des Deputy Lieutenant von Northamptonshire übte er bis zu seinem Ruhestand aus.

Er war einmal verheiratet. Aus der Ehe, geschlossen am 2. Juli 1864 mit Caroline Alice Martha, Tochter des William Grimble, stammten vier Kinder:
