Kathryn Bigelow’s net worth, biography, fact, career, awards and life story

Kathryn Bigelow net worth and salary: Kathryn Bigelow is an American director and producer who has a net worth of $40 million. She is the first woman ever to win the Directors Guild of America’s Best Director Award as well as the Academy Award for Best Directory. Early Life: Kathryn Bigelow was born on November 27, 1951 in San Carlos, California. Growing up, this towering woman (she’s nearly six feet tall) nurtured twin passions for art and horses. She later studied painting at The Art Institute of San Francisco, and the Whitney Museum under Susan Sontag. She eventually earned her masters degree in film from Columbia University. Success: Her first movie job was as an actress in the low budget feminist film “Born in Flames”. Bigelow is an indie filmmaker at heart, and a woman, but she steers clear of stereotypes in both areas. Her edgy, often violent, films have included “Point Break” which starred Keanu Reeves as an undercover FBI agent hunting bank-robbing surfers, “Blue Steel” which starred Jamie Lee Curtis as a police officer involved with a serial killer, and “Strange Days”, which was a futuristic thriller about mind control starring Ralph Fiennes and Angela Basset. Her bankability gave this indie director the credibility and creative freedom to make “The Hurt Locker” on her own terms in 2008. She became the first woman to win an Academy Award for her work on The Hurt Locker. Interestingly, she beat out her former husband James Cameron for the award. In 2012, Bigelow released the critical acclaimed hit Zero Dark 30 which was also nominated for many awards. Personal Life and Real Estate: Kathryn was married to fellow director James Cameron from 1989 to 1991. Upon marrying, they paid $1.8 million for a home in Beverly Hills, which continued to be Kathryn’s primary residence for many years. She listed this home for sale in 2018 for $13 million. In 2016 she spent $2.6 million to acquire a 72-acre horse ranch property in upstate New York.
