Oscar Korbla Mawuli Awuku is a Visual Artist born and raised in Accra Ghana on the 18/05/1999. He had his basic education at Senajoy International School, And secondary school education at Mawuli School, He read Commercial Arts In Painting at Takoradi Technical University.
Oscar Mawuli is into Digital Arts,Canvas Painting,Sculpture and specifically Body Arts. Growing up he, He heard a lot of stories concerning African traditions and lifestyle before colonialism. Stories that could not be seen but only heard so in time he began to use arts to recreate such memories.
“Anansinisim” was derived from the Anansi which was one of his favorite childhood characters.
According to Mawuli, women play a vital role in human progress and have a significant place in the society hence they are capable of sharing all the responsibilities of life. Women have a better voice to convey messages and makes it quite easier to understand. The reason he chose to use ladies is for the fact that despite their social significant they posses qualities of elements of design which he personally calls them “walking art works”.
Anansinisim comprises of the Adinkra collection which is all about black heritage. The symbols and patterns represent the traditional knowledge that the ancestors have passed on to the new generation. A heritage to be proud of and that we have the obligation to preserve and to live by incorporating this heritage into our way of living.
Living with the Adinkra knowledge, knowing it but importantly using it in our daily activities keeps the heritage alive. By using it we preserve it since it continues to exist.
