Salman Rushdie Net Worth: Salman Rushdie is an Indian-British writer who has a net worth of $15 million dollars. Born in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India, in 1947, Sir Ahmed Salman Rushdie’s writing career began with an advertising agency where he wrote copy for several brands, including Aero and American Express. During his time as a copywriter, he penned “Midnight’s Children” on his way to becoming a novelist. Though his debut novel was largely dismissed, “Midnight’s Children” published in 1981, winning the Booker Prize. He wrote “Shame” two years later, which also claimed several awards, before publishing his first non-fiction tale in 1987: “The Jaguar Smile”. A year later, he penned the highly controversy novel “The Satanic Verses”, which erupted across the Islamic world as some felt it was a slight to Muhammad. Rushdie received dozens of death threats and attracted the scorn of Iran’s Supreme Leader in early 1989. His 2012 book “Joseph Anton: A Memoir” discusses how “The Satanic Verses” changed his life. In 1999, he earned the French title Commandeur de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres and in 2007, he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II. He moved to the United States in 2000 and taught at Emory University in Georgia, though he primarily lives in New York City. His 12th novel The Golden House was published in 2017 and Rushdie has also authored three collections, two children’s books, and ten works of non-fiction. Rushdie has been married four times, most recently to actress and TV personality Padma Lakshmi. They divorced after three years of marriage in 2007.
