Maurice Kamto, is a Cameroonian opposition politician. He joined the opposition after resigning, in 2011, from the current government ruling the country since 1982. He is one of 34 members of the International Law Commission of the United Nations and its current president. He successfully led the Cameroonian delegation during the negotiations to resolve the matter of Bakassi, a peninsula disputed with neighboring Nigeria. His decisive contribution helped him to be appointed in 2004, minister delegate to the Minister of Justice before he submitted his resignation in November 2011.
A kick-off meeting of his party, the Cameroon Renaissance Movement (MRC), merging multiple parties was prohibited by the government on 13 August 2012.
