Ina le Roux studeer aan die Universiteit van Pretoria en is vir baie jare dosent in Afrikaanse letterkunde. Sy kerstening laat hom toe om dinge ook uit ’n meer Westerse perspektief te sien, sodat die gebruike en kultuur van die Vendas met empatie maar ook objektiwiteit verhaal word. Die vertellings volg geen vaste patroon nie en behandel ’n aantal anekdotes uit Piet se pastorale lewe en agtergrond oor sy lewensgeskiedenis, asook agtergrond oor ander mense van die streek. Al die verhale word weergegee in die eiesoortige spreektaal van die Venda, met kleurryke beskrywings van hulle kultuur en gewoontes. Agterin die boek is ’n lys verklarings van Venda name en -woorde. “Die reën kom nie maklik nie” is ’n heruitgawe van “So lief as wat daardie hoender vir ’n skoot is”, met twee nuwe verhale (“Die dikwielfiets” en “Die kerk van die holiness”) wat bygevoeg word. Van haar verhale word in versamelbundels opgeneem, insluitende “Uit die kontreie vandaan” en “Bladsak”. Saam met Jaco Kruger skryf sy ook die boek oor Vendaliedere, “The flamboyant rooster and other Tshivenda song stories”.
