His debut studio album “Country by Charley” was released in 1966. His 1967 single “Just Between You and Me” was a top 10 hit on the Billboard country singles chart. Over the next two decades, 51 Charley Pride records broke into Billboard’s top 10, with 29 hitting #1. His singles “Just Between You and Me”, “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin” and “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone” were enormous successes. His final and 47th album, “Music in My Heart”, was released in 2017. Charley met his future wife Rozene during his baseball days. They married in 1956 while Charley was home from Army basic training. They had three children and remained married until his death in 2020. Pride had a tumor on his vocal cord in 1997 that was surgically removed at the University of Arkansas. In 2000 Charley became a minority owner of the Texas Rangers Major League Baseball team. Charley Pride died on December 12, 2020 at the age of 86 from COVID-19 complications.
