Cherie (Coetzee) van der Merwe (born 31 January 1985) is a South African film and television actress and artist based in Hekpoort, Gauteng, South Africa. She is known for her roles in Bakgat! (2008,) Fanie Fourie’s Lobola (2013,) and Molly & Wors (2013.)

Early life and education

Cherie (Coetzee) van der Merwe was born on 31 January 1985 in Johannesburg, South Africa. She grew up on a farm in Hekpoort, outside Krugersdorp, Gauteng.

She went to Pro Arte Alphen Park high school in Pretoria, South Africa and later attended Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa.

Career

Cherie (Coetzee) van der Merwe made her acting debut in 2007 appearing in the role of “Rebecca” in short comedy Andre Metstrepie. The following year, in 2008, she was seen in one of the leading roles alongside Ivan Botha and Altus Theart in Henk Pretorius-directed comedy film Bakgat! She retained the role in the next two versions of the film: Bakgat! II (2010) and Bakgat! tot die mag 3 (2013, directed by Stefan Nieuwoudt.)

Cherie van der Merwe was last seen in 2016, portraying the character of “Engela de Ridder,” alongside Marie Pentz and Albert Pretorius in Wimpie van der Merwe-directed short film Kolskoot.

In addition, Cherie is a tattoo artist and owns/manages Truth be Told tattoo studio in Gauteng, South Africa.
