Born in Greece, Angelo Sotira began working in computer program development in his early teens. At age 15, he developed and launched a music file-sharing site called Dimension Music. The site caught the attention of Disney executive Michael Ovitz, and Mr. Sotira subsequently sold the site to Mr. Ovitz, while also joining the staff of his company, Artist Management Group and Lynx Technology Group. In the summer of 2000, he became part of a group of developers that launched the artwork-sharing site, deviantART. Originally designed as a way for artists to share application “skins”, it slowly evolved into a forum for sharing artwork, music, and videos, with the ability to critique and comment on other artists’ work. Since 2005, the company has undergone major structural shifts within its administration, and there have been numerous legal battles. Angelo Sotira is currently serving as CEO.
