Andrew Kuper is an entrepreneur and investor. He is the founder and CEO of LeapFrog Investments. Former United States President Bill Clinton announced the launch of the company at the 2008 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting.
Career
Kuper was born in South Africa. He attended the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He later graduated from Cambridge University with a Ph.D. in social science and political science supervised by Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.
In 2004, Kuper was appointed the managing director at Ashoka, an organization that finances social entrepreneurs. Among other roles, he ran the Global Academy for Social Entrepreneurship, working with Muhammad Yunus of Grameen Bank and Fazle Abed of BRAC.
In 2007, Kuper founded LeapFrog Investments, a firm that invests in companies that provide access to financial services and healthcare to underserved people in emerging markets. Investors in the company’s funds include American International Group Inc. (AIG), Swiss Re AG, Axa SA and Prudential Financial.
Kuper received the 2012 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He was also named a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum in 2013.
Kuper is the author of two books on governance, Global Responsibilities (Routledge, 2005) and Democracy Beyond Borders (Oxford, 2004). In 2016, Kuper was featured as an Australian Jewish humanitarian in the book Standing Up – Jewish Australians committed to a better world.
