Adam Clayton has been the bass player for the successful Irish band, U2, since the group formed in 1976. Born Adam Charles Clayton on March 13, 1960, in Chinnor, Oxfordshire, England, he is worldwide known as the bassist of the Irish rock band U2. It was back in high school that Clayton met his future bandmates Paul Hewson, Dave Evans and Larry Mullen, Jr. In 1980, they released their first album Boy, after which many successful studio efforts followed like the breakthrough masterpiece The Joshua Tree (1987), along with Rattle and Hum (1988) and Achtung Baby (1991). Even though U2’s early music was mostly rooted in post-punk, the combo eventually incorporated influences from many genres of popular music. By the mid-1980s, U2 became a top international act. In addition to the huge following that they gained, U2 earned nod from critics as well, winning many awards. Clayton, as a part of U2, has received 22 Grammy Awards, Album of the Year award twice, Song of the Year award twice, Best Rock Duo or Group award seven times, Best Rock Album award twice and Record of the Year award twice. Apart from his work with the band, Adam Clayton has given his contribution to several solo projects throughout his career, such as his work with fellow band member Larry Mullen Jr. on the theme of 1996’s Mission: Impossible.
